RIDGEFIELD, N.J., April 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- At 10:00am EST today, NJ-based, family-owned Toufayan Bakeries will begin a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ official record attempt to create the Largest Display of Sandwich Wraps in support of this year's Walk MS New Jersey event. With the help of dozens of volunteers from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Toufayans will create 750 individual wraps, each one different than the next, as an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator oversees the attempt.
"Bergen County has been home to our family and our business for decades. In breaking the record today, we hope to help raise awareness for the National MS Society and say thank you to the thousands of Walk MS NJ participants who come out each year in support of this incredible organization," said Karen Toufayan, director of marketing for Toufayan Bakeries. "What better or more delicious way to express that gratitude than to 'Wrap it Up for a Cure' by working together to create and then enjoy 750 wraps in the beautiful Overpeck Community Park."
Toufayan Bakeries, one of the country's largest family-owned baked goods companies is known for its high quality wraps, bagels, pitas and snacks, and for innovating within the category. Toufayan will leverage the diversity of its product line for the attempt using ten different varieties of wraps (from whole wheat and spinach to gluten-free garden vegetable and savory tomato), 46 pounds and eight varieties of deli meat, 750 individual slices of six cheese varieties, and 25 pounds of sliced vegetables. The final display of wraps will be completed within one hour; then counted and verified by a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS official, and then provided to Walk participants for lunch. Local Ho Ho Kus, NJ business the Red Cedar Market assisted with all of the preparation of ingredients for the event. www.redcedarmarket.com.
Throughout the month of March, recognized as MS Awareness Month, Toufayan supported the National MS Society by donating a portion of product sales to the organization.
"Whether one is diagnosed with MS, caring for a loved one with the disease or engaged in efforts to treat or cure, the key to the future is working together," said Karen Drzik, executive director of the New Jersey Metro Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. "When local businesses, institutions and residents unite, it makes every step forward that much more meaningful. The Toufayan family is as committed to community as they are to producing outstanding baked products."
"Bergen County is proud to host Toufayan Bakeries and the National MS Society's Wrap-It-Up for a cure at Overpeck Park," said Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco. "Thousands of Bergen County residents will come together to watch as they make a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS official attempt to break the record for the largest display of sandwich wraps. The Wrapathon will have music, free wraps, activities for children, and bring attention to a good cause. MS is a highly unpredictable, disabling disease of the central nervous system that doctors and scientists are still struggling to combat and even determine its cause – which is why we need to help raise awareness for the hundreds of thousands across New Jersey and the country affected by MS. I encourage Bergen County residents to help fight MS and watch history be made."
