Toufayan Bakeries Introduces "Simply Sourdough Pita"

Naturally Fermented, Hearth-Baked and Free of Preservatives, the New Line is the Only One of its Kind from a National Brand

RIDGEFIELD, N.J., Nov. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- As consumer demand for traditionally fermented breads continues to climb, Toufayan Bakeries, one of the largest family-owned bakeries in the United States, is returning to the technique that helped launch the company a century ago. The bakery has introduced Simply Sourdough, a new line of hearth-baked pita breads crafted with natural sourdough fermentation, simple ingredients and time-honored baking methods. Toufayan is the only national brand to offer consumers a sourdough pita. The line is rolling out at major retailers nationwide.

Highlights

• The only sourdough pita from a national brand
• Made with natural sourdough fermentation and simple ingredients
• Preservative-free, non-GMO
• Vegan and certified kosher, pareve

"Simply Sourdough isn't a response to a trend, it's a return to our roots," said Karen Toufayan, Vice President of Marketing for Toufayan Bakeries. "Our grandfather built this business 100 years ago by nurturing natural sourdough starters made from just flour and water. We're proud to share that timeless approach with a new generation of consumers looking for simple ingredients and restaurant quality bread at home."

Simply Sourdough applies the family's original sourdough method to pita for a soft texture and distinctive flavor. With a natural pocket, it's an easy handheld meal, ready to fill with proteins and fresh veggies or pair with a favorite spread. The line includes Simply Sourdough Hearth Baked Pita (4 count, 14.1 oz), Simply Sourdough Mini Pita (6 count, pre-sliced, 14.8 oz) and Simply Sourdough Pita Bites (20 pita slices, 7.05 oz).

The launch comes as shoppers turn to traditionally fermented breads. Circana reports sourdough bread unit sales have increased 30% year over year, and Mintel's 2025 U.S. Packaged Bread Report finds consumers increasingly link sourdough with ingredient simplicity and digestive wellness.
