Town School for Boys goes green with its electricity usage
San Francisco based K-8 school purchases 350 MWh of Green-e certified green power for all its facilities
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, April 21 /PRNewswire/ - Town School for Boys, a K-8 independent day school founded in 1939, is going green with its electricity usage. The San Francisco based school has purchased certified green power for 100% of its facilities' electricity usage from EcoElectrons Renewable Energy, a company specializing in supplying green power to organizations through renewable energy credits.
"Through our partnership with the Green-e Marketplace we model for our students' good stewardship of the planet," said Brewster Ely, Headmaster of Town School for Boys. "Our students have an enhanced opportunity not only to be better stewards of their environment, but also to see how a school built over half a century ago can change with the times."
Town School for Boys has also joined Green-e's Marketplace program, allowing them to display the Green-e logo on their website and other communication materials to inform students, staff and the public about its commitment to renewable energy. The renewable energy credits purchased by Town School were certified by Green-e Energy, the leading renewable energy certification program in the U.S. Green-e provides independent, third-party certification to ensure renewable energy meets strict environmental and consumer protection standards. Town School for Boys will also join the prestigious Green Power Partnership - a voluntary program that offers organizations purchasing green power expert advice and technical support. It is managed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
"We are very pleased that Town School has purchased green power," said Rahul Chitrapu, Chief Executive of EcoElectrons. "Town School's commitment will expose future generations to sustainable initiatives and positively influence their behavior from a very young age."
Town School for Boys joins an ever growing list of companies and organizations that are taking real action to reduce carbon dioxide and other emissions from their electricity use. Electricity generated from renewable sources results in less environmental pollution, and displaces conventional fossil fuel sources like coal and natural gas from the electric grid. Currently, renewable energy accounts for only three percent of total electricity generation across U.S. Town School's purchase of electricity generated from nearly emissions-free renewable sources avoids greenhouse gas emissions and serves to build the market for renewable energy, while increasing incentives for building new facilities.
