TPPF creates Center for Tenth Amendment Action; Karen Lugo joins as Director

Center for Tenth Amendment Action will focus on defending state sovereignty.

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Texas Public Policy Foundation today announced that Karen Lugo will join the Foundation as Director of the Center for Tenth Amendment Action. The Center, formerly known as the Center for Tenth Amendment Studies, will focus on meaningful policy action to defend and extend the prerogatives and sovereignty of the states as intended under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution. The former Center for Tenth Amendment Studies' inaugural Director, Mario Loyola, now moves to a new position as the Foundation's Chief Counsel, while retaining a leading role at the new Center for Tenth Amendment Action.

As Co-Director of the Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence Center in California, Ms. Lugo co -authored circuit-level and Supreme Court amicus briefs on a variety of issues from Structural Separation of Powers, Federalism, Commerce Clause, Police Powers, and Healthcare Reform. She was a clinical visiting and adjunct professor at Chapman University School of Law where she taught originalist theory and advanced brief-writing skills for the Constitutional Law Clinic.

Ms. Lugo was president of the Orange County, California, Federalist Society lawyer chapter for seven years and currently serves on the Federalist Society National Security and International Law Executive Committee. She is Founder of the Libertas-West Project, a center for advancement of Western-based cultural cohesion discourse. Ms. Lugo has been a regular guest on the Orange County PBS local issues debate program, Inside OC, and she is a frequent contributor to Pajamas Media, National Review Online, Townhall.com, American Thinker, and Family Security Matters. She has been interviewed by dozens of radio hosts and has spoken for hundreds of civic groups on constitutional and cultural concerns.
