TURBRO Brings 48V DC Air Conditioning to the Growing Off-Grid RV Market

The new Greenland GLD15 15,000 BTU 48V DC inverter unit optimizes off-grid climate control by eliminating the need for external inverters, allowing for a 25% increase in thermal efficiency for modern RV electrical systems.

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- As RV owners look for ways to spend more time away from traditional campgrounds and electrical hookups, onboard power systems are evolving to support increasingly demanding appliances. TURBRO's Greenland GLD15 48V DC Inverter Rooftop RV Air Conditioner offers a different approach to one of the largest electrical loads in an RV: climate control.

Designed for RVs and mobile applications built around 48V electrical systems, the Greenland GLD15 provides 15,000 BTU of cooling along with heat pump heating. Rather than converting battery power through an external AC inverter, the unit operates natively on 48V DC and connects directly to a compatible 48V battery system.

Why 48V Matters for High-Power RV Equipment

While 12V systems remain common across the RV industry, high-power equipment can place significant current demands on low-voltage electrical systems.

The difference can be illustrated with a basic electrical formula: Power = Voltage × Current.

At a simplified 1,200-watt load, delivering the same amount of power at 12V requires approximately 100 amps, compared with approximately 25 amps at 48V. Actual operating conditions vary, but increasing system voltage allows the same amount of power to be delivered at lower current.

For high-demand equipment such as an RV air conditioner, lower current can help reduce resistive losses and make power distribution more manageable, particularly in RVs equipped with larger lithium battery banks and solar charging systems.

Designed for 48V RV Electrical Systems

The Greenland GLD15 connects directly to a compatible 48V battery system using an 8 AWG UL-certified power cable. Because the air conditioner operates natively on 48V DC, an external DC-to-AC inverter is not required between the battery bank and the air conditioner.

The system uses a twin-rotary inverter compressor that adjusts operation based on cooling demand. With 15,000 BTU of cooling capacity, it is designed for applications including larger RVs, fifth wheels, high-roof vans, semi-trucks, and custom 48V builds. Heat pump functionality provides heating during cooler weather, while users can control the system through the included remote or app.

For RVers interested in boondocking and extended stays away from electrical hookups, air conditioning remains one of the most demanding onboard loads. A 48V air conditioner does not eliminate the energy required for cooling, but the higher-voltage architecture allows that power to be delivered at lower current than a comparable load operating at 12V.

The GLD15 is intended for owners who are already using, upgrading to, or designing around a 48V battery system rather than as a drop-in replacement for every RV air conditioner.

Expanding DC-Powered Options for RV Owners

The Greenland GLD15 joins TURBRO's lineup of DC-powered rooftop RV air conditioners, including 12V models designed for more conventional RV electrical systems.

As RV owners explore larger battery banks, solar charging, and higher-capacity DC systems, TURBRO is expanding its RV climate-control lineup to accommodate different approaches to off-grid power.

The TURBRO Greenland GLD15 15,000 BTU 48V DC Inverter Rooftop RV Air Conditioner with Heat Pump is available now through TURBRO.
