The couples will enjoy luxurious, exclusive accommodations, airfare, excursions in Mazatlan, and local transportation – a total value of over $4,000 USD, courtesy of the Mazatlan Developers Association, a consortium of premier condominium and home builders.
Tim Onciul, chief financial officer at a geo-engineering firm, and Dalene Onciul, a product merchandiser, are an active couple who have been to Mazatlan a number of times and appreciate the beaches and welcoming people.
Tim's essay emphasized his desire to learn about local life in Mazatlan. Here is an excerpt: "When I travel, I love to meet the locals, eat with them, party with them, and experience what makes their lives different than ours."
Dwight Lavoie, a computer systems analyst from Calgary, and his girlfriend, Sandra Anderson, a production accountant for an oil and gas company, are the other winners.
Dwight's essay highlighted his appetite for doing it all in Mazatlan, from water activities to fiestas. Dwight is a busy outdoorsman who enjoys snowboarding, golf, tennis, and mountain biking. This is his first trip to Mazatlan, as well as Sandra's.
"We look forward to hosting these two couples and showing them what a wonderful place Mazatlan is to live," said Guillermo Garcia, President of the Mazatlan Developers' Association. "We really believe that all it takes is one week in Mazatlan to want to stay a lifetime."
More than 7,000 expatriates call Mazatlan home for part or all of the year. The city features authentic culture and outstanding amenities, and is a growing market for second homes and retirement.
Both couples are available for interviews. The couples will write updates and post photos about their Mazatlan adventures: www.mazatlanlifestyle.net/blog.
The Manana is Today essay contest was held Dec. 10 – 23, throughout Alberta province as well as three other Canadian provinces and Washington state by the Mazatlan Developers Association as an investment to promote Mazatlan to a wider audience.
