U-Haul of Newport to Add Interior Storage with Property Acquisition

NEWPORT, R.I., April 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul customers in and around Newport will soon have more secure and convenient storage options with the forthcoming expansion at U-Haul Moving & Storage of Newport at 111 Connell Hwy.

The store, located just off the Newport Bridge near the Newport Naval Base, opened in 1978 but it added abutting land with an existing building in November for the expansion project.

U-Haul customers in and around Newport will soon have more secure and convenient storage options with the forthcoming expansion at U-Haul Moving & Storage of Newport at 111 Connell Hwy.

"We're still in the beginning stages at the new building," said Thomas Snell, executive assistant for U-Haul Company of Rhode Island. "Major interior and exterior renovations need to be completed, but this building will give us more options for climate-controlled interior storage and U-Box containers."

The 9,999-square-foot building on the newly acquired parcel last housed a towing company. U-Haul Moving & Storage of Newport is currently using the facility to offer its customers moving supplies, storage and U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers.

"We are excited for this project because U-Haul will ensure that this large building will not become an eyesore," Snell said. "Newport is home to the U.S. Naval War College and the Officer Candidate School, so moving and storage is a necessary service here."
