HICKORY, N.C., Feb. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul Moving & Storage of West Hickory has added indoor, climate-controlled RV, boat and vehicle storage at 331 U.S. Hwy. 70 SW, site of the old shopping mall.
There are 150 indoor parking spaces available for rent along with 34 outdoor spaces (17 covered, 17 uncovered). The storage features are entirely state-of-the-art for customer satisfaction and convenience, U-Haul Company of Western North Carolina president Doug Weston said.
"We've taken the old mall that had been nearly abandoned and we're reusing it for what the community needs as far as storage," Weston said. "Now we're offering the indoor RV, boat and vehicle parking, which is something not many in the area do."

U-Haul Moving & Storage of West Hickory was acquired in 2014 and underwent renovations in 2015, including the construction of a new showroom and indoor storage units. Another 351 units will be completed within the next six weeks, giving customers access to 1,400 storage units.
The full-service store offers truck and trailer rentals, towing equipment and hitch installation, moving supplies and boxes, U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers, and much more.
"We have dock-level loading and unloading for our self-storage customers, as well as elevators," Weston said. "For the outdoor parking, all of the spaces have power, security cameras and lighting, and within a few months we'll putting in a dumping station. It's a lot better than parking behind a chain-link fence in some gravel lot."
The acquisition of the property was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul® supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
U-Haul is serving customers at a second Hickory location at 542 Main Ave. SE. Renovations are ongoing at U-Haul Moving & Storage of Downtown Hickory, but there are truck and trailer rentals, moving supplies and storage units currently available.
