UAG Sponsors JT Holmes' Triumphant Victory in Baja 500

ENSENADA, Mexico, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Urban Armor Gear (UAG, urbanarmorgear.com), leading designer of rugged and lightweight tech protection, sponsors world-renowned skier, stuntman and BASE jumper, JT Holmes, in his first UTV race and first victory at The SCORE International Baja 500. This year's race covered 513.67 miles of Mexican desert over a route spanning from Ensenada, across the Baja peninsula to San Felipe, and back to the finish line in Ensenada.  Holmes finished in 16 hours, 10 minutes and 31 seconds. 

Holmes persevered exploding belts, missing engine pieces, and lack of communication devices to take first place in the Pro UTV category, ultimately proving himself as a force to be reckoned with. During this head to head UTV race, Holmes' drive belt blew out at mile 200 and the replacement belt exploded at mile 382, taking out some engine wiring along with it. Thankfully, the team had ample replacement parts allowing co-pilot Eric Clay to "Macgyver" the wiring to get running again.

A total of five tires were changed throughout the race due to a poor choice in tire pressure and excessive car-to-car contact with race vehicle number 104. Holmes and Clay relied on a hand-held radio to communicate with their chase teams after an underestimated water crossing doused them, ruining their original race radio.  Clay was forced to lift his helmet visor and yell into a small walky-talky to communicate his location while flying through the desert at 60 miles per hour. They were fortunately able to alert BF Goodrich pits that they were approaching, but had no information from their own support crew of their position compared to the other competitors in the Pro UTV naturally aspirated class.

Holmes currently sits second place behind Don Whittington in SCORE International's 2017 points standings after his victory at the Baja 500 and the team's substitute driver DNF result at the San Felipe 250.  Two races remain in the 2017 season.  Since one result will be dropped, it is critical that Holmes finishes both races to have a chance to claim the 2017 championship in his UAG sponsored Polaris RZR XP 4 1000.  

Although this thrill-seeking adventure had audiences captivated and in disbelief, Holmes' careful attention to detail and precision allowed him to succeed.
