UIW Officially Welcomes Dr. Thomas Evans
Evans will serve as the 10th President of the University founded in 1881
SAN ANTONIO, June 15, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- At a press conference held Tuesday, June 13, Dr. Thomas Evans, the newly appointed 10th president of the University of the Incarnate Word, was officially introduced to the community. An announcement regarding Evans' selection as president was issued on June 1, when both the Board of Trustees and the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word approved his appointment.
Chair of the UIW Board of Trustees Charlie Lutz welcomed the crowd of over 200. An invocation was led by Sr. Audrey O'Mahony, CCVI, Chairperson of the U.S. Ministry Council and a member of the founding congregation the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. Trustee and Chairman of the Presidential Search Committee Bobby Rosenthal introduced the search committee and outlined the search process. Lutz then introduced Evans to the community outlining a list of accomplishments, which led to his selection as president.

As UIW President, Evans will lead the largest Catholic university in Texas, with a global enrollment of over 11,000 students who reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of South Texas. UIW is also the largest private Hispanic Serving Institution in Texas with over 1000 employees, an economic impact of $100 million annually and over 30,000 alumni.

For the past five years, Evans has served as president of Carroll College in Helena, Montana. Prior to his time at Carroll College, Evans served at St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas for 16 years in various roles including associate vice president of professional education and global initiatives. He will begin fulltime at UIW starting Aug. 1.
Evans holds both a Master of Arts in Asian studies and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a Bachelor of Science in language arts from the School of Languages and Linguistics at Georgetown University.
Evans and his wife, Lisa, have two sons, Walter and Leland.
