Universeum Science Discovery Center selects Yooba's iPad Publishing Platform for its Exhibits

BOSTON, March 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Universeum Science Discovery Center in Gothenburg, Sweden has as its mission to provide a positive effect on children's attitudes to science, technology and math. Everything at Universeum is based in real science and focuses on interactivity as far as possible. Investing in iPad apps was a natural leap for Universeum to accomplish this goal. Additionally, Yooba was selected as the solution provider thanks to its capabilities of providing sustainable solutions to create and manage iPad apps over time. The main goal of the project was to provide valuable and educational information on each animal included in the exhibition. Animals in the exhibition are regularly changed; therefore Universeum had a requirement to easily and quickly update an app when needed. Further, Universeum wanted full control and administration in-house of the content of all the apps. Another challenge was to create an engaging and easy-to-use communications platform to all visitors, keeping in mind that Universeum's target group is children with their parents.

With Universeum's focus of interactivity in mind, Yooba focused the navigation and design on meeting two requirements:

• intuitiveness for the user
• an easy to manage framework for the apps

Contents, such as pictures and videos, are placed in 'holders' which makes it easy to replace with new species and related content. The goal was to use large pictures to ensure the highest visual impact and to complement with videos.

Today, Universeum has created 12 different apps for each animal in the exhibition. A design "framework" was created where some information is unique for a specific app and other information universal for all apps. The goal was to have a uniform design which is easy to manage and duplicate for forthcoming updates and changes. "The Yooba Studio is user-friendly and a well-designed platform," says Hannah Nyberg Sundqvist, editor at Universeum.

Universeum uses the Yooba Kiosk application to publish and schedule content to its iPads. The output from Yooba's platform is a native app which operates without internet connection. The Yooba back-end is where all apps are managed. This is also where Universeum sets up automatic reports for collected data and monitor the status of the apps - basically the management dashboard for complete control of their apps and iPads.
