NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Harwood Feffer LLP (www.hfesq.com) is investigating potential claims against the board of directors of Cobalt International Energy, Inc. ("Cobalt" or the "Company") (NYSE: CIE), concerning whether the board has breached its fiduciary duties to shareholders.

On November 30, 2014, a class action was filed against the Company in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Case No. 4:14-cv-03428.  According to the complaint, the Company and certain executive officers issued materially false and misleading communications to the public.  The Complaint alleges a widespread fraudulent scheme to bribe officials in the Republic of Angola via shell corporations in order to obtain access to oil wells there.

On January 19, 2016, the motion to dismiss in the class action was denied in part.

Our investigation concerns whether the Company board of directors has breached its fiduciary duties to shareholders, grossly mismanaged the Company, and/or committed abuses of control in connection with the foregoing.
