SATURDAY, APRIL 7: MORAVIAN EASTER
Profile America — Saturday, April 7th. Tomorrow is Easter Sunday, celebrating the story of the resurrection and the most joyous festival of the Christian year. Services will be held in churches across the country, along with sunrise services in many lovely settings. One of the longest-running such observances will be the Moravian Easter Sunrise Service in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, held since 1772. Brass bands will play in the streets to awaken sleepers, and some 8,000 worshippers will gather in God's Acre, the Salem Moravian graveyard at daybreak. Slightly over three-quarters of adults in the U.S. describe themselves as Christian. Profile America is produced by the U.S. Census Bureau: Measuring America -- People, Places, and Our Economy.
