MONDAY, JANUARY 10: IMPORTANT CAR SHOW
Profile America -- Monday, January 10th. One of the most important U.S. automobile shows -- the North American International Auto Show -- is under way in Detroit. After several media and industry days, the event then opens to the public, with 760,000 expected to attend. Those watching the recovering U.S. auto industry will be closely looking at some 70 new models expected to be revealed. They'll also gauge the public's reaction to them for clues to the future. Hybrids and electric vehicles are most likely to be in the limelight. In the years before the economic downturn hit, U.S. auto dealers sold about 13.5 million cars and light trucks each year. In 2008, that number had dropped to less than 11 million. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
