MONDAY, JULY 11: "GO WEST!"
Profile America — Monday, July 11th. Some of the most famous advice in U.S. history is "Go West, young man." The source is usually attributed to an editorial by Horace Greeley in the New York Tribune, shortly after the end of the Civil War. Others say the thought was written in the 1850s by John Soule in a Terre Haute, Indiana, newspaper and the complete thought is "Go West, young man, and grow up with the country." Today, the West is still a magnet — but for men and women of all ages. In recent years, eight-out-of-the-10 fastest growing states have been in the West, led by Nevada. Projections through the year 2030 show the largest growth is expected in Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Texas, and Utah. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
