THURSDAY, JULY 14: HOT DOGS
Profile America -- Thursday, July 14th. This is National Grilling Month, National Hot Dog Month and National Baked Bean Month. All three of these events will be on display tonight in Luverne, Minnesota, where the town's business community will stage the 48th annual Hot Dog Night. The occasion will prove to 5,000 people that the only thing better than eating a hot dog on a summer evening is if the hot dog is free -- in this case, 10,000 of them. Americans eat some 7 to 8 billion hot dogs during the summer months -- more than 21 million of them at major league baseball parks. While more hot dogs are consumed during the summer, they are popular all year long, part of some $26 billion of processed meats sold in the U.S. each year. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
