FRIDAY, JUNE 10: VACATION PLANNING

Profile America — Friday, June 10th.  Even with the lingering effects of the economic downturn and high gas prices, this is still vacation time across the country.  Millions of Americans are ready to head to the beach, the mountains, and to theme parks and family reunions.  An increasing number of travelers are choosing to avoid crowded highways and searching for a hotel to spend their vacation aboard a cruise ship.  There are some 161 cruise ships serving North America.  Together, their cabins contain almost 271,000 berths.  Around the world, more than 13 million passengers embark on cruise ships each year.  Just over three-quarters of them embark at U.S. ports, with Florida having the largest number of sailings.  You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
