THURSDAY, JUNE 9: ROSES
Profile America -- Thursday, June 9th. This is National Rose Month, celebrating America's favorite flower, grown in all 50 states. One of the biggest celebrations is going on now and will wind up this weekend -- the Portland, Oregon Rose Festival. This is the 104th annual festival, and is expected to draw some 2 million people. There are more than 50 events, featuring three grand parades, dragon boat races, a waterfront village, and visits by U.S. navy ships. Roses mark all sorts of events -- weddings, Valentines Day, graduations, anniversaries, and birthdays. The flowers are a mainstay of America's 18.5 thousand florists. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
