WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3: WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
Profile America -- Wednesday, March 3rd. This is Women's History Month -- a time to recognize the vision, courage, and accomplishments of the nation's women. One example is Rachel Carson, whose 1962 book, "Silent Spring" helped lay the foundation of modern environmental awareness. In recent years, women have worked toward equal pay. Adult women earned a median of $35,745 a year in 2008, down slightly from the previous year. That means women earned 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. That ratio is 88 cents on the dollar in Washington, D.C. and seven states, including California, Arizona, Maryland, and New York. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, conducting the 2010 Census beginning April 1st.
