THURSDAY, MAY 10: LILAC FESTIVAL
Profile America — Thursday, May 10th. Spring continues its awesome display beginning tomorrow in Rochester, New York. There, for the next 10 days at Highland Park, some 400,000 people will gather to see and smell 500 different varieties of lilacs in bloom, displayed in a setting designed by America's famed landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmstead. This is the world's largest display of its kind. Unlike many events, the Lilac Festival is free and will feature entertainment, special shows for children, a parade, and a 10K race. To supply all the plants for home gardens and landscaping, horticulture is an $11.6 billion business in the U.S. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
