FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22: PUMPKIN SHOW
Profile America — Friday, October 22nd. The annual pumpkin show is on in Circleville, Ohio. Normally a town of about 13,500, the show is expected to draw more than 300,000 visitors during its four-day run. More than 100,000 pounds of pumpkins, squash, and gourds will be on display. One highlight is the weighing of giant pumpkins. Last year's winner was grown by Dr. Bob Liggett, and tipped the scales at 1,635.5 pounds. His pumpkin patch had three others topping 1,000 pounds each. To satisfy the demand at Halloween, U.S. farmers produce over 930 million pounds of pumpkins annually. Illinois is the leading producer, followed by California and Ohio. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
