SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10: GRANDPARENTS DAY
Profile America — Saturday, September 10th. Tomorrow is National Grandparents Day — a time to say thanks for the love and help they provide and to recognize their growing importance to the survival of many American families. The special day was the idea of Marian McQuade of Fayette County, West Virginia, and has been observed nationally since 1979. Today, grandparents are increasingly not just relatives to be visited on holidays and weekends, but part of the year-round household for many children. Almost 6.5 million grandparents have their grandchildren living with them, and four- out-of-10 are responsible for the youngsters basic care. And one-out-of-three preschoolers whose mothers work are cared for during business hours by a grandparent. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
