Profile America -- Thursday, September 16th. Americans take pride in their neighborhoods and as a result, most are very satisfied with them. More than two-thirds of households across the country rate the quality of their neighborhood as eight or higher on a 10 point scale. Just over 15 percent of households report crime as a problem in their neighborhoods. The median value of all homes in the U.S. is more than $165,000, and the median price tag for newly built homes is more than $263,000. Households in owner-occupied housing units pay a median monthly mortgage of $1,464. Renters paid a median of $789 a month.
