U.S. Consumers Received Just Under 4.1 Billion Robocalls in September 2025, According to YouMail Robocall Index

2025 Robocall Volume Up Roughly 5% Year Over Year

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 8, 2025  /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. consumers received just under 4.1 billion robocalls in September, according to YouMail's latest Robocall Index. This figure represents a little more than a 2% decrease from August and nearly a 10% drop compared to September 2024. It also marks the fifth consecutive monthly decline since volume peaked in April, with robocall volume now approximately 18% below that peak.

However, the first nine months of 2025 have seen 40.8 billion robocalls, an increase of approximately 5.2% over the same period in 2024.

September's robocall activity averaged 133.9 million robocalls/day and 1,550 robocalls/second, down 4% from August's average of 135.2 million robocalls/day and 1,564 robocalls/second.

"We've now seen five straight months of declining call volume from 2025 peaks," said YouMail CEO Alex Quilici. "That's good news. The other good news is that overall volume in 2025 is only about 5% higher than at this time in 2024."

These latest figures are provided by YouMail, a totally free app that protects consumers by blocking unwanted or dangerous calls, texts, and voicemails. The data is extrapolated from robocall traffic attempting to reach YouMail's millions of active users.

Roughly 60% Of September's Robocalls Are Unwanted

Another positive takeaway from September's data is that robocall volume declined across all categories.

Despite a drop of roughly 50 million calls during the month, scam and telemarketing calls, which consumers generally want to avoid, continued to account for 60% of all robocall volume. That figure is consistent with recent months.

September 2025's  Most Annoying Robocalls

September's most annoying robocalls were related to various types of loans, particularly payday loan debt relief. These calls, such as those from this number, featured messages like:

Hi, this is Jason with Consumer Lending. I'm the underwriter assigned to your file, and I've been trying to reach you regarding your recent loan request update. It looks like everything is already in place for an approval of up to $64,000. That can be set up on a 60-month term at about $1,217 a month, or a 36-month option, if that's a better fit. If you've decided not to move forward, that's absolutely fine. I'll simply note your request as withdrawn, but if you're still interested, we just need to confirm a couple of quick details, and I can send your paperwork right away. Press 2 to connect now, or call back at (866) 878-0551. To stop updates, press 7.

The pre-approved loan campaigns are problematic due to their high volume, which continues to be tens of millions of calls every month. The calls in each individual robocall campaign originate from thousands of different numbers, including a mix of toll-free and regular numbers, often placing only a few calls from each. The messages consistently claim to be from a specific individual representing a company name that doesn't correspond to any known lending firm.

These calls frequently target numbers on the Do Not Call list and appear to ignore opt-out requests, despite offering an option to do so. Based on consumer feedback, they continually target people who never contacted the company or requested a call. This behavior is indicative of at best illegal telemarketing and at worst a scam.
