U.S. Robocalls Drop 10% to Just Under 3.9 Billion in August, According to YouMail Robocall Index

Decline Breaks Rising Trend, Volume Hits Lowest Level Since October 2025

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. consumers received just under 3.9 billion robocalls in August 2026, according to the Robocall Index from YouMail, the robocall protection app that tracks U.S. robocalling behavior. This volume dropped 10% from July, marking the lowest monthly volume since October 2025.

August averaged 125.4 million robocalls/day and 1,451 robocalls/second, down from July's 139.3 million robocalls/day and 1,612 robocalls/second. The decline breaks and reverses the upward trend seen most of the year, bringing August's volume roughly back to the levels recorded in January and February.

Over the past 12 months, total robocalls reached 48.5 billion, continuing the lowest 12-month total recorded since August 2022.

These latest figures come from YouMail, a totally free app that protects consumers from unwanted or dangerous calls, texts, and voicemails. The estimates are extrapolated data from robocall traffic targeting YouMail's active user base.

Unwanted Calls Decreased in August.

All classes of robocalls dropped in August, with Notifications falling more than 13% and Payment Reminders down nearly 4%.

Importantly, unwanted calls dropped nearly 10 as well, with consumers receiving just over 1.9 billion unwanted robocalls in August, one of only 3 months in the last 24 with fewer than 2 billion.

August 2026's Most Annoying Robocalls

August's most problematic robocall campaigns once again centered on pre-approved debt-consolidation loan offers. The largest campaigns were variants of this one:

This campaign originated from tens of thousands of different numbers, with messages varying in terms of pre-approved loan amounts, minimum qualifying debt, and the opt-out number listed.

This robocall campaign, along with similar ones, appears responsible for well over 100 million calls in August. Consumers consistently report these calls as spam, stating they never inquired about a loan, never applied for one, and never consented to be called. Based on consumer reports and the behavior of the calls, it's likely to be a scam.

Consumers who receive these calls should report them to sites such as directory.youmail.com or spamreporters.com. Reporting helps protect others by ensuring these numbers can be immediately blocked not only by the YouMail app, but across a variety of carriers. It also helps aggregate valuable data that can be shared with regulators and law enforcement to support investigative efforts.
