OSRAM SYLVANIA recognized for going "above and beyond" to integrate Lighting Facts into everyday business practices

DANVERS, Mass., July 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) honored OSRAM SYLVANIA with a Special Recognition for going above and beyond typical consumer education efforts by integrating Lighting Facts into everyday business practices and demonstrating staunch commitment to product evaluation. OSRAM SYLVANIA was one of nine Lighting Facts partners recognized by the DOE at the Solid-State Lighting Market Introduction Workshop yesterday in Seattle.

The Lighting Facts program is a voluntary pledge that showcases Light Emitting Diode (LED) products for general illumination from manufacturers who commit to testing products and accurately reporting performance results according to industry standards. Because LED technology has the potential to cut U.S. lighting energy use by one-fourth, the Lighting Facts program was developed as a foundation for successful commercialization of this technology. The Lighting Facts label provides a simple and effective way to analyze energy efficiency, color temperature and other key information essential to evaluating products and identifying the best lighting options.

Utilizing the results from the IES LM79 test, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America's standard, ensures that there are accurate results behind the numbers on the label. Similar to a nutrition label, the Lighting Facts label provides a quick summary of product performance data, thereby providing credibility to the products, and cementing consumer confidence to adopt newly available lighting options.
