MISSION VIEJO, Calif., Feb. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Otolaryngology (ENT) and Head and Neck Surgery department of Mission Hospital was recently awarded the rating of "High-Performing" in the U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) Best Hospitals rankings. The rankings recognize Mission Hospital as the highest-rated private ENT hospital of the five such hospitals within twenty-five miles, and the fourth-highest rated private ENT hospital of the thirty such hospitals within fifty miles, of its campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach. The overall rankings designate Mission Hospital as the fifteenth-highest regionally ranked hospital of the 131 hospitals listed by USNWR in the Los Angeles metro area.
"We are pleased to be recognized by USNWR as a high-performing hospital in the ear, nose and throat specialty," said James K. Bredenkamp, MD, a board-certified otolaryngologist at Mission Hospital and Head and Neck Associates of Orange County. "Whether patients come to us for head and neck oncology, trauma and tumor reconstruction, sleep disorders, or hearing-related dysfunctions, I and my otolaryngology colleagues at Mission Hospital place our years of experience at their service to provide healing in all aspects of their condition."
The overall ENT score was computed based on USNWR ratings for various categories of care. Mission Hospital scored the highest possible ranking in two categories, patient services and patient survival. The hospital also ranked high in nursing intensity, which measures the nurse-to-patient balance across the hospital.
USNWR analyzed more than 5,000 hospitals for adult and pediatric care to find the best in the United States, based on critical criteria and patient outcomes. Ear, nose and throat is one of 16 specialties in which USNWR ranked hospitals.
