Utah State University Research Foundation Names President

NORTH LOGAN, Utah, May 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Utah State University Research Foundation today announced that it has named Dr. Douglas K. Lemon as its president.

In a move designed to continue the organization's success in the aerospace, defense, and energy fields, Lemon succeeds Oren Phillips, who has been interim president and is currently serving as chairman of the board of trustees for USURF.

Lemon will lead USURF's $50 million per year business that includes Space Dynamics Laboratory, Energy Dynamics Laboratory, and business operations functions.  Lemon joined USURF in 2008 as director of SDL and later served as executive vice president and director of laboratories.  As an undergraduate student in physics at USU in the 1970's, Lemon worked for the predecessor organizations of SDL.

"Doug has been a proven asset at USURF for the past 18 months with responsibility for effective strategies that strengthened our space and defense mission areas," said Phillips.  "As the founding director of the Energy Dynamics Laboratory, he has brought together technology and business experts to create a leadership team that is developing and deploying technologies for renewable and advanced energy systems."

Lemon has 32 years experience as a scientist, program manager and senior executive with SDL, EDL, and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He has led development of next-generation, high technology solutions for clients working in space, aerospace, intelligence, national defense and homeland security.  

USURF is a nonprofit corporation owned by USU. Its purpose is to conduct applied research, engineering development and translate innovative technologies into real-world solutions.  USURF employs 450 professionals in North Logan, Utah and locations in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Albuquerque, N.M.; Washington, D.C.; Huntsville, Ala.; Bedford, Mass.; Houston, Texas; and Park City, Utah.
