John Short, Ph.D., has been named executive chairman and joined Vericare's board of directors. Dr. Short comes to Vericare with more than 30 years experience in the long-term care industry and will oversee the strategic market development of Vericare's services. Prior to joining Vericare, he served as president and chief executive officer of RehabCare Group, Inc., having served earlier as interim president and chief executive officer and a member of the company's board of directors. Previously, Dr. Short was the managing partner of Phase 2 Consulting, Inc., a healthcare management consulting firm, for more than 18 years. RehabCare was acquired in June 2011 by Kindred Healthcare, Inc., where Dr. Short serves as vice chairman of its board of directors.
Donald Myll has been named chief financial officer and interim president & chief executive officer, replacing former CEO David Flaugh who resigned from the company to pursue other opportunities. Mr. Myll has more than 21 years of executive and financial leadership experience guiding entrepreneurial companies in the healthcare services, biotechnology and medical device sectors. He has served as CFO of four publicly traded companies and led two successful initial public offerings while raising $1.6 billion in private and public capital. In addition, he has led over $800 million in M&A transactions. Previously Mr. Myll served as CFO of ImpediMed, Ltd., Ambit Biosciences, Corp. and AMN Healthcare Services, Inc. Mr. Myll was co-founder and CFO of TheraTx, Inc., a pioneering provider of post acute rehabilitation services to the nursing home industry.
Cindy Watson has been named to the newly created position of executive vice president, operations. Ms. Watson joined Vericare with more than 20 years of healthcare experience, bringing a unique blend of operations, marketing, sales and clinical knowledge. Her background includes start-up operations and strategic business development for privately owned and publicly traded healthcare organizations. Ms. Watson joins Vericare from her previous post as chief operating officer at Concerro where she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the healthcare technology company and its 500-plus hospital clients. She also held numerous operating positions at TheraTx.
Cammile C. Bird has been named vice president sales and marketing. Ms. Bird joined Vericare with more than 14 years of extensive healthcare experience, primarily in business development, sales and provider relations. She brings to her position high-level managerial experience in sales and marketing, along with strong financial management skills. Ms. Bird joined Vericare after nearly 10 years with INSPIRIS/Hospice in Phoenix, where she served in a number of capacities including regional director of business development; vice president of provider relations-network development; vice president, advanced care planning; vice president, community outreach; and executive director of operations.
