BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Dec. 22, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Children and families affected by domestic violence will receive $240,000 worth of toys and books to brighten their holiday season, thanks to the generosity of Verizon employees and the public.
For Verizon's annual holiday campaign, the company partnered with the National Network to End Domestic Violence, which is coordinating the distribution of the items to children and families in domestic violence shelters across the country.
The public was invited to take part in the campaign by making online donations to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, and a total of $15,000 was contributed. The organization will use the funds to help domestic violence shelters support programs that assist children and families in their local communities.
Verizon employees contributed by collecting the toys and books and making online donations.
"Our families are in the process of healing and embracing hope for the future, and Verizon's holiday campaign gives them one of the greatest gifts one can receive – the ability to bring the magic of the holidays to their children," said Angela Sherwood, domestic violence case manager at Community Housing Services in Lansdale, Pa. "It is through the kindness of campaigns like these that hope in the community is strengthened."
