The Grand Opening event will celebrate opportunities for Lubbock-area students and employers with local business owners, city officials and community members. Admissions counselors and instructors will be available to give tours of the campus, classrooms, labs and medical areas. Guests will have the opportunity to view the facility and meet the faculty and staff while enjoying live music from Moon Jelly, libations and hors d'oeuvres.
"We are eager to put our new campus and career center on display, and we are proud to be a local source of well-trained and skilled employees who will boost the economy to attract more people and revenue to our area," says Karina Long, president of Virginia College. "The community has already given us a warm welcome, and we look forward to a continued partnership with local employers."
Virginia College in Lubbock started classes in the new facility on April 7, 2014. The school's initial enrollment was 59 students with eventual student population expected to reach approximately 800. The school will employ up to 125 local faculty and staff, and approximately 80 students will graduate each year in fields such as business administration, business office specialist, cosmetology, customer service professional, medical assistant, medical billing and coding, pharmacy technician and sales professional.
The new school, which provides students with skills training specific to businesses in Lubbock and surrounding areas, is located in a former shopping center. Like other Virginia College campuses, the school chose to renovate an existing building to beautify the area and give back to the local community. Virginia College invested $4.6 million in renovations, construction, signage, furniture, fixtures and lab equipment for the campus building and facilities.
With the Lubbock campus addition, Virginia College now boasts a total of 27 on-ground, brick-and-mortar campus locations across the Southeast in 11 states, as well as an online school at www.vconline.edu.
