EVERETT, Wash., Nov 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fluke Networks today announced that FloraHolland, a leader in international floriculture (plant and flower) auctions, has deployed the award-winning Visual TruView™, a unified Application-aware Network Performance Management solution. TruView allows the FloraHolland IT team to identify auction network delays or problems in real time, so they can be quickly fixed before impacting bidding and commerce.
FloraHolland operates 38 international auction clock marketplaces in the interest of its more than 5,000 members. These marketplaces rely on FloraHolland's proprietary applications and databases to sell more than 20,000 different types of plants and flowers at auction, processing more than 12.5 billion items and €4.4 billion each year. This remarkable volume requires continuous operations with zero tolerance for network or application performance delays or downtime.
"A delay of even a few seconds is unacceptable when we're auctioning more than 50 million items each day to onsite and international bidders," said Leo de Waard, a network systems engineer for FloraHolland. "TruView gives us visibility into the network, applications, and databases from a single solution so we don't have to waste time unnecessarily pinpointing where issues originate."
Visual TruView is the industry's first truly unified network and application performance monitoring and troubleshooting appliance. It allows FloraHolland to continuously monitor all aspects of its backbone and marketplace networks. These networks include complex logistics and operations, as well as more than 2,450 bidders.
Performance expectations are high, but issues do arise. For example, FloraHolland recently experienced performance issues that caused a two-second delay between auctions. The company turned to Visual TruView and quickly identified the root cause as a database response-time issue. The company then immediately focused on optimizing the database to minimize impact, knowing that the network and application were not the cause.
"The Netherlands is the birthplace of floriculture, and that leadership is expanding with the digitization and virtualization of the auction networks," said de Waard. "Visual TruView ensures that the Netherlands and FloraHolland retain our leadership position in providing plants and flowers to the world. The next time you enjoy a flower, it's very possible that Visual TruView played a part in the experience."
