Vocollect Healthcare Systems Seeks Pilot Deployments For Nurses in Technology-Progressive Hospitals

PITTSBURGH, March 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Vocollect Healthcare Systems, part of Vocollect, a business unit of Intermec, Inc. (NYSE: IN), announces that it is seeking three technology-minded hospitals to engage in a research-based pilot deployment of its IV clinical workflow application, as well as real-world application and feedback to help identify other practical applications of its AccuNurse voice-based system. Vocollect Healthcare Systems is seeking these pilots to be underway by June 2012, with implementation complete by December 31, 2012.

AccuNurse is specifically designed to support nurses and nurse extenders and is unlike any other voice technology currently available. Unlike speech recognition dictation systems typically directed toward physicians, AccuNurse is powered by a two-way dialogue capability that allows nurses to exchange information back and forth with the EMR using their voice. With AccuNurse, nurses can receive new patient tasks from the EMR and also request clinical information about a patient – all using voice and a smart device.  AccuNurse also allows nurses to document right within the EMR by using simple voice commands from anywhere in the hospital.

Hospitals that participate in the Pilot Program will receive financial incentive, along with:

• An Application Assessment to assess the organization's current workflow for receiving IV requests, providing the IV care and documenting this event.
• Metrics will be tracked and improved (operational & clinical outcomes related to IV care).
• AccuNurse will seamlessly interface with the EMR provider to support the IV workflow.
• All training & education will be provided by Vocollect Healthcare Systems.
• The pilot program will include three months of productive use.
• During and after the pilot, the nursing staff will provide feedback to help identify other clinical workflows that would benefit from a two-way voice-enablement.

Hospitals that participate in the pilot program can expect to see better responsiveness to patients that will yield improved HCAHPS scores; delivery of more accurate care, helping to improve Core Measures and the rate of HACS; and eliminate documentation overhead.

The pilot deployments will be promoted via leading conferences, publications and nurse-centric initiatives like the TIGER Foundation (The Technology Informatics Guiding Educational Reform), to provide accelerated informatics to nurses, as well as industry recognition to participating hospitals.
