VoltDB Introduces First 5G Edge Pricing Model to Meet Market Dynamics of the Data-driven Economy

BEDFORD, Mass., May 2, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- VoltDB, the enterprise-class fast data processing platform that powers real-time intelligent decisions on streaming data, today announced the industry's first performance-based commercial pricing model for today's modern, real-time data architectures. The VoltDB 5G Edge Pricing Model empowers organizations to more quickly deploy VoltDB Smart Stream Processing at the edge in micro data centers, reducing latency and scaling to meet the demands of 5G-powered applications.

To achieve the low latency promises of 5G, the data needs to be stored, filtered and processed; driving decisions close to the edge instead of moving the swath of data to a central hub. Though edge data-centers do not have large powerful machines, they instead have smaller machines with enough capacity to process the data from the individual edge that it is attached to. VoltDB's new, edge-based pricing for performance allows organizations to build out their edge data center architecture without needing to worry about the economics of processing the data.

In order to effectively provide coverage for higher speeds, 5G networks require ten to 100 times as many small cell antennae as would a major tower. New architecture helps avoid the loss of signal beyond short distances and reduces communication latency. Legacy architecture does not have the power to manage the low latency expectations of 5G applications and Industrial IoT. This leads to the edge data centers concept, where both the applications and the data processing platform are deployed on the edge data centers.
