Vuzix has been active in this fast growing competitive sport and has sponsored an international drone racing team that is competing in select racing events worldwide using Vuzix iWear Video Headphones. The first event was the 2016 US National Drone Racing Championships, which was held at Governors Island in New York City on August 5-7, 2016.
This weekend Vuzix will participate in the CFDR (Central Florida Drone Racing) event on August 27, 2016 in Sarasota, Florida. This event is a test of all-digital low latency racing solution utilizing Vuzix iWear Video Headphones with up to 10 drones racing at once. The following week, Sept 2-4, the Multi GP racing association will hold its racing Championship in Muncie, Indiana. This will be the first time an all-digital HD race event will be featured.
Following these two U.S. events, Vuzix is in Paris for Drone Festival on September 4, 2016. This event is sponsored by the European Rotor Sports Association (ERSA). Vuzix iWear Video Headphones will be part of the all-digital races. The event has some of the sport's top performing pilots entered to compete in front of an estimated 100,000 spectators on a race track along the iconic Avenue De Champs-Élysées.
During these events, select racers and judging officials will be wearing Vuzix iWear products and operating drones that will be enabled with the Connex ProSight system. Vuzix eyewear combined with the Connex Prosight solution delivers an advanced first person view (FPV) HD experience that provides superior vision for racing pilots an extremely wide field of view and affectively zero latency. This enables pilots to make quicker decisions at high speeds of up to 80 MPH.
"We have received extremely positive feedback on our iWear Video Headphones enabled with ProSight from our partner Connex," said Paul Travers, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vuzix. "Pilots have told us that they feel more in control with our zero latency solution and large field of view, it's practically like transporting into the drone. We expect drone racing to continue to grow in popularity and are pleased to be involved at this relatively early stage."
