White Nationalists Plan Protest of Nexus, Nexus Stands Against Hate
Statement from Nexus Services CEO Mike Donovan, in response to an upcoming anti-immigration and white nationalist protest from the Three Percenters at the company's Virginia headquarters on March 3rd
VERONA, Va., Feb. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- It's come to our attention that a self-proclaimed anti-immigration group will be leading a protest at the campus of Nexus Services, Inc. The group claims a plan to gather more than 500 protestors at our Verona corporate office. While we respect the First Amendment rights of all people and have no issue with peaceful demonstrations of any kind, we simply cannot remain silent against the forces of hate, ignorance, and white supremacy. It is our experience that when good people stand up to bullies, the bullies typically turn away from the bright light of truth. Sunlight is the best disinfectant in the marketplace of ideas.
The group in question, called the Three Percenters, appears to stand for two basic principles – the right to accumulate weapons of war, and the nationalistic attitude preventing immigrants from preserving their rights. A former member of the Three Percenters was charged in the Charlottesville riots last year. We stand strongly opposed to hate and violence.
As we have seen with recent events (the school shooting in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL less than a week ago, and the horrific racist violence in Charlottesville, VA last year), we've suffered far too many tragedies in our communities from ultra-nationalist attitudes and a nonsensical approach to gun laws in this country. These are two trends that pose grave danger to our society and need to be combatted forcefully by the powers of good. Immigration policy formulation requires an honest sharing of ideas, but these ideas can't be discussed at the barrel of an assault rifle. At Nexus, we simply can't sit idly by and allow these voices to be heard without presenting our own worldview and conveying the truth.
