Whitney Church Returns To Court Seeking Continued Approval To Hold Christian Worldview Bible Study In School Facilities
Liberty Institute Attorneys, Along with Its Client Prairie Valley Baptist Church, Attends Temporary Injunction Hearing To Continue Holding Bible Study Meetings at Whitney ISD Facilities; Press Availability To Follow.
WHITNEY, Texas, May 29, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tomorrow morning, Liberty Institute will argue a Temporary Injunction (TI) hearing in the 66th District Court, defending Prairie Valley Baptist Church's right to continue holding its after-school Christian Worldview Ministry in a Whitney High School classroom. The hearing will be held at the Hill County courthouse at 9 AM CT, and Liberty Institute, along with its clients, will hold a media availability directly following.
After a district judge granted Prairie Valley Baptist Church a temporary restraining order (TRO) on May 19, the church immediately exercised its religious rights, holding Bible studies at Whitney High School on May 20 and 27.
"We are hopeful that the judge will rule to allow the Christian Worldview Ministry to continue in Whitney High School classrooms, like other clubs that are not subject to government censorship," said Cleve Doty, Liberty Institute attorney. "Well-established federal and Texas law support the right of every citizen of Whitney to free speech and free exercise of religion."
Before receiving the TRO, Whitney ISD officials denied repeated requests by the church to hold its Christian Worldview Ministry Bible study meetings at Whitney High School—offering conflicting and contradictory explanation after explanation—in violation of Texas constitutional and statutory law.
