Wikia Debuts New Interactive, Embeddable Maps

SAN FRANCISCO, July 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wikia, the social universe of fandom and the ultimate source for powerful and relevant pop culture expertise, today announces the debut of Wikia Maps, a product designed to enhance Wikia's collaborative chronicles for fans, by fans. Wikia's fan insider group, Community Council, has been able to beta test Wikia Maps until today when the product becomes widely available at maps.wikia.com.

Uniquely designed to map game play as well as concert posters, body armor, characters or runway fashion, Wikia Maps fuel fans' creative expression with fully-customizable, image-based, interactive maps that anyone can create or contribute to on the Wikia platform. Maps will be available to view on each Wikia site and across mobile devices, with increased mobile editing functionality to be introduced in coming months.

A simple and easy mapping tool, the author can use real-world places, images, or favorite fictional universes to chronicle, share, and thread information across the web. Each pin can be click-able to a reference page across Wikia's 34M pages of fan-authored content and fans can embed a map on any Wikia and across the web, making it easy to share favorite stories, characters, or game play with the world.

Inspired by the prevalence of map-based stories in pop culture, from the Game of Thrones to Middle-Earth, fans are seeking ways to extend their passions with the creation of ad hoc interactive maps like the one shown here on elderscrolls.wikia.com.
