Woodbury University Master Of Architecture Program Extends To San Diego Campus

BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Woodbury University announces the extension of the School of Architecture's Master of Architecture (MArch) program to its San Diego campus. Applications for the 2013-14 school year are currently being accepted.  

The San Diego campus offers both a 2-year and a 3-year MArch. These programs build upon the successful MArch offerings first launched on the Los Angeles-Burbank campus in 2008 and join two existing one-year graduate programs: the Master of Science in Architecture, Landscape + Urbanism (MSArch L+U) and Master of Real Estate Development for Architects (MRED).

Woodbury School of Architecture occupies a renovated warehouse in San Diego's Barrio Logan district. Sited between downtown and the naval shipyards, the campus is a center of cultural and architectural activity in a diverse neighborhood populated by families, artists, and community leaders. Faculty and students play an active role in shaping the cultural and economic future of the area through events, workshops, and outreach. Because the school is in proximity to the Tijuana border, its programs address issues of contested landscapes, identity, and politics. The award-winning building is home to specialized facilities that include a library focused on architecture, urbanism, and development, as well as a wood/metal shop, and a digital fabrication lab.

The MArch at Woodbury School of Architecture San Diego brings the singular Fieldwork philosophy to San Diego and Tijuana. Guided by faculty, graduate students explore and engage the architectural and urban planning issues that come with diverse region. Design studios encourage students to apply both local and global lessons to solve architectural problems. A Fieldwork study-away design studio is at the core of the 2-year and 3-year MArch.

The MArch faculty is composed of a small but diverse group of academics and practitioners whose interests range from hands-on material studies to broad geopolitical research and data collection. Graduate students benefit from the faculty members various backgrounds, professional experiences, and individual methodologies. The intimate scale of the San Diego campus, as indicated by an average class size of 15 participants, enables regular one-on-one faculty and student exchange.
