Woodland International Research Group (WIRG) To Showcase Newly Opened Pediatric / Specialty Unit at ASCPT 2017
WATCHUNG, N.J., March 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Woodland International Research Group (WIRG), a subsidiary of Evolution Research Group, LLC (ERG), recently opened its new purpose-built, 16-bed clinical research unit (CRU) adjacent to its current 40-bed CRU. The new unit is designed specifically for child and adolescent inpatient trials in special populations including those suffering from CNS disorders and diseases in other therapeutic areas. Replacing the former dedicated "pediatric wing" of larger unit, the facility features bedside gaming, air hockey, crafts and other activities as well as a secure "fresh air" outdoor area. WIRG's well-established patient retention program includes education and tutoring for school-aged study participants.
This customized facility was designed for the comfort of patients and family members with two beds per room, allowing caregivers to stay overnight. It is also equipped with separate exam and procedure rooms. The staff consists of a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, a board-certified family practitioner, also boarded in pain and addiction, RNs, LPNs, PCTs, nutritionists, CRCs, neuropsychiatric raters, phlebotomists, as well as regulatory, QC and ACLS certified staff. Recent pediatric phase 1-3 inpatient studies performed at WIRG have included trials in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, depression and GERD.
When not housing pediatric populations, the unit is also being utilized for WIRG's more complex trials in adult and elderly subjects. These studies include early phase Proof-of-Concept, Proof-of-Mechanism studies requiring smaller cohorts, serial PK sampling, PSG, EEG/qEEG, actigraphy, CSF sampling, intensive cardiac monitoring (QTc/TQT), and other specialized procedures.
