World-Class Manhattan Wine Shop Opens Second Location in San Francisco's Palace Hotel
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Flatiron Wines & Spirits officially opened for business yesterday at 2 New Montgomery Street in the same famous building as San Francisco's Palace Hotel. From the heart of the Big Apple to the City by the Bay, Flatiron Wines & Spirits is now a bicoastal destination.

The store is located in a large and elegant 3,500 square foot space at the corner of New Montgomery and Jessie streets. The space was designed by local boutique firm, Boor Bridges Architecture, and features custom hand-crafted shelving and soaring ceilings. It includes a private event room and tasting area where customers can sample wines from Flatiron's extensive collection.
Significantly larger than Flatiron's New York store, the Palace location offers nearly three times as many selections as in Manhattan. The focus will remain on small, artisanal producers from around the world, with particularly extensive collections from Burgundy, the Loire, the Northern Rhone, Piedmont, Germany, and Champagne. Notably, Flatiron will take advantage of its new location to build on its reputation for stocking small-production California wines, and aims to have the most diverse selection of these wines anywhere. There will also be a wide selection of hand-crafted spirits and every-day staples throughout the store. With a separate Spirit Room, a Fine Wine Room holding rare and coveted bottles, and an expansive California section, guests will have an ample amount of new items to explore and can also easily return to the classics.
In addition to the opportunity to purchase and taste anything in the shop on-premise, Flatiron will have many free tastings, educational seminars, meet-the-winemaker opportunities, book signings, and other wine-related events. Over the years, Flatiron's New York store has hosted a number of the world's top wine producers from both Europe and California. The new San Francisco store has an event space especially designed for this use.
The shop's tasting room will be open all the time even when there is not a formal tasting. Wine lovers will be able to sit and taste wines or spirits while eating from the Palace Hotel's menu - a plate of raw oysters or perhaps their award-winning burger.
Beau Rapier, General Manager of the new shop and a partner in the business, explains that San Francisco was the only city they considered for their expansion: "San Francisco is a culinary capital and life here is deeply enriched by the incredible culture of wine and food. We can't think of any other city where the people will be so keen to explore the incredibly diverse range of artisanal wines that we offer."
Another partner, Josh Cohen, described how excited Flatiron is to be closer to CA wine country: "There is no more exciting, no more dynamic wine region in the world than California, and we are thrilled to finally be so close to so many of our favorite growers and winemakers. We are happy to provide them and our customers a space to connect, taste and discover together, right in the heart of San Francisco."
Flatiron Wines has been nationally recognized as a leading wine shop. It was recently nominated as "retailer of the year" by Wine Enthusiasts Magazine, and was named one of the top 50 "wine destinations" in the United States by Food and Wine Magazine. Flatiron has been described as one of New York City's best wine stores in numerous publications, including the New York Times, the Village Voice, the Financial Times, and others.
