YouScience Partners with Atlanta High Schools to Deliver College and Career Direction

ATLANTA, Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- EdTech startup YouScience announces today a partnership designed to stop the college major guessing game for students at two Atlanta-area schools – Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia, and Mount Paran Christian School in Kennesaw, Georgia.

YouScience's College Success Profile is designed to help students graduate on time and improve career readiness. It empowers students with the knowledge needed to wisely choose a major that best fits their aptitudes, interests and personality. This understanding of one's ideal career fit ultimately helps to prevent an extended college career. With the cost of an education from a four-year public college in Georgia averaging more than $55,000, reducing unnecessary tuition costs is just one of many measureable benefits of YouScience.

During the 2013-2014 school year, Fellowship Christian distributed the College Success Profile to approximately 75 juniors and seniors and will require the Profile as part of its 2014-2015 Junior class curriculum. "In addition to helping students understand their aptitudes and interests for a potential college major, the profile offers our students a leg up—an advantage—in the competitive application process, because they better know who they are and can speak about themselves in an intelligent way," says Fellowship Christian School Counselor Beth Buchweitz. "We are using it to teach students to see themselves in their best light and to ultimately sell themselves when applying for college or a job."

"It's a sense of security," says recent Fellowship Christian School graduate Kelsey Royalty, referring to the College Success Profile. "In high school, we get tested all the time. You get grades, and sometimes they aren't straight A's. So we think, 'Oh, we failed.' It's a reminder that there are so many things you can do with your life."

YouScience used research and input from The Ball Foundation, HumRRO and a variety of U.S. government organizations to create the first scientific, online profile directed with an education and career outline customized to each student's unique set of talents. YouScience's College Success Profile was created with the purpose of effectively engaging students and their parents. Not only is it easy to administer, but it is also easy to incorporate into a college counseling program making the program ideal for independent education consultants, as well as educational institutions.

Mount Paran's 200-plus juniors and seniors are also required to take YouScience before beginning their senior year of high school to better prepare them and their counselors for college application season, letters of recommendation and scholarship opportunities. "With the rising cost of tuition and wide variety of options available for our students, we see the partnership with YouScience as an excellent opportunity to help our families become educated participants in the college selection process," explains Mount Paran Head of High School Eric Bradley.
