The scholarships, which honor the fighting spirit and lasting legacy of Anna Basso, represent a single pillar of 1 Million 4 Anna's overall vision to win the fight against the rare cancerous disease today, tomorrow and until it's gone. Since its inception in 2012, the 1 Million 4 Anna Foundation has awarded 51 scholarships to 21 different Ewing's Sarcoma survivors, totaling more than $134,000.
"This is a wonderful moment in the fight against Ewing's Sarcoma," said Carol Basso, 1 Million 4 Anna Founder. "These scholarships represent 19 individual victories amongst a larger battle to beat this disease. It's our hope that these survivors inspire those around them while raising awareness about those still in the fight."
The foundation's efforts are primarily funded and supported through the 1 Million 4 Anna annual golf tournament hosted each September in Dallas. The 2014 tournament was recently named to the Dallas Business Journal's Top-10 charity golf tournaments list, grossing more than $360,000.
Since 2012, the foundation has steadily grown into a pioneer in the battle against Ewing's Sarcoma through its dynamic approach to fighting the disease. In addition to awarding scholarships, 1 Million 4 Anna continually dedicates significant funding and resources to promising research efforts. Through its short history, the foundation has already funded four Ewing's Sarcoma research grants at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical District totaling more than $105,000.
"Support from the 1 Million 4 Anna Foundation has been instrumental as we have launched new laboratory-based research studies of Ewing Sarcoma," said Stephen Skapek, Professor and Pediatrics Director for the Division of Hematology/Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. "We hope to leverage these findings as we strive to develop better treatments for children with this disease."
1 Million 4 Anna also supports those fighting Ewing's Sarcoma through the launch of 12 Anna's Closets locations at various hospitals and treatment centers across the country, with plans to create more in the near future. Through donations to Anna's Closet, the foundation provides gifts tailored to teenagers and young adults undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

ABOUT 1 MILLION 4 ANNA
The 1 Million 4 Anna Foundation officially launched in 2012 to honor Anna Basso and raise awareness for Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare bone and tissue cancer that affects children and young adults. Anna was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in November 2009, and in an effort to heal her body and encourage her spirit, 1 Million 4 Anna was born. Family, friends, and complete strangers pledged to pray for Anna every day at 12:12 PM. Though Anna's fight lasted 18 months, her giving spirit will live on through the Foundation as it works to eradicate Ewing's Sarcoma today, tomorrow and until it's gone.
