$1 million Picasso masterpiece available online for ONLY $135!
The lucky lottery winner will get the Picasso on Wednesday, December 18th- with proceeds benefiting the ancient Lebanon city of Tyre
WASHINGTON, Dec. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The opportunity to own a work by Pablo Picasso is normally reserved for the wealthy. In December, however, all that's needed to own it is $135 and a little bit of luck.
In an effort to raise money to save the historical city of Tyre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, French TV host Peri Cochin has teamed with Olivier Picasso, Pablo Picasso's grandson, to create an international lottery like none before. The winner will get Pablo Picasso's masterpiece entitled "L'Homme au Gibus" (Man with Opera Hat), estimated at $1 million.
The lottery is limited to 50,000 tickets on a first-come first-served basis. Each ticket costs €100 ($135). The drawing will take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Sotheby's in Paris, under the supervision of a Court Bailiff and broadcast live worldwide on the net. "Everything innovative would interest him, I think that Pablo Picasso was a pioneer, pioneer in his personal life, in his sentimental life, in his creations," said Olivier Picasso. "He's also a pioneer in all forms of creation… and would have, I think, been amused to be involved in such a popular operation."
All lottery proceeds will go to the International Association to Save Tyre (AIST), a UNESCO NGO. Funds from this lottery will help create a handicraft village, which will provide job opportunities for children with special needs and disadvantaged women. (www.aistyr.com)
About the Work
The prize of the drawing is a certified Pablo Picasso cubist piece entitled "L'Homme au Gibus", painted with gouache on paper, measuring 30.5 cm x 24 cm, drawn in 1914 and bearing the artist's signature in its upper-right corner. Maya Picasso (daughter of Pablo Picasso and Marie-Therese Walter) and Claude Ruiz-Picasso (son of Pablo Picasso and Francoise Gilot) both attest to the painting's authenticity.
