$10 Member of the Bordeaux Wine Council's 2013 Today's Bordeaux Program Ranked Number One on Wine Enthusiast Magazine's Top 100 Best Value Wines List of 2013

NEW YORK, Oct. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the Bordeaux Wine Council (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux) is proud to announce that a member of the Today's Bordeaux selection, an exemplar program of the types of affordable, high-quality Bordeaux wines consumers can find in the United States, was given the number one ranking in Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Best Buys of 2013. The 2011 Chateau Mayne Guyon, Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux exemplified Wine Enthusiast's criteria for its top 100 Best Value Wines. The ranking honors wines that have suggested retail prices of $15 or less and fit the outlet's "Best Buy" qualification, meaning they possess an excellent quality-to-price ratio. Of the thousands of wines reviewed by Wine Enthusiast over the past 12 months, only 922 (or roughly five percent of wines tasted by Wine Enthusiast) were awarded the Best Buy designation. Then the editorial staff selects "…the top wines that exhibit the best relationship between score and price while also considering other factors like availability and buzz." The wines included in Today's Bordeaux are priced between $10 and $55 retail and are representative of the wide range of wines produced in Bordeaux, including dry white wines, rose, red, and sauternes (sweet wines). Today's Bordeaux brings together wines that are meant to be enjoyed during every occasion – and these value wines can be enjoyed by wine aficionados and novices every day or when they are entertaining their nearest and dearest during the holidays. The program, in its eighth year, is a proud reflection of Bordeaux's diverse terroir with vibrant and distinct appellations.

The selection was determined by a panel of nine judges during a two-day judging of wines submitted through an open call to importers in the United States. The Today's Bordeaux jury included nine leading wine educators, buyers, beverage directors, sommeliers, and writers including:

• Ms. Lorena Ascensios, head wine buyer of Astor Wine & Spirits since 2005 
• Ms. Carson Demmond is a Wine Location Specialist for the Center for Wine Origins and served as Associate Editor of Wine & Spirits Magazine during the time of the judging. Previously she worked as a sommelier on Belinda Chang's team at The Modern in New York City 
• Ms. May Matta-Aliah, New York-based wine educator, instructor at the prestigious International Wine Center, and President of In the Grape, an organization dedicated to making wine and spirits education accessible to everyone 
• Mr. John Osborne, Wine Director and Sommelier at Raoul's, famed French bistro in Soho
• Mr. Maximilian Quattrone, currently the Corporate Beverage Director at Frankies 457 Spuntino, Prime Meats, and Frankies 570 Spuntino restaurants in New York City

Other judges included the Bordeaux Wine Buffs, who educate consumers year-round during in-person tastings and online conversations.
