100% Cork Video Contest to Send Winner to Portugal
Contestants Asked to Make Short Videos about Why Natural Cork is the Preferred Wine Closure
SAN FRANCISCO, March 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- 100% Cork, the campaign to educate wine drinkers about the benefits of choosing natural cork, today announced that it will send a lucky contest winner and a companion on a trip to sun-drenched Portugal in June.
Contestants are being asked to produce a video of no more than two minutes by April 25 describing why cork is the preferred closure for wine. The campaign encourages contestants to be innovative while conveying accurate messages about the technical, social and environmental benefits of cork.
Detailed entry instructions and restrictions can be found at www.facebook.com/100percentcork.
U.S. wine drinkers already prefer cork by a wide margin because of its tradition and because it allows wine to age properly. But a growing number of wine drinkers are opting for wine sealed with natural cork because, unlike artificial closures, cork is sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable.
Moreover, cork's use as a wine closure is the primary incentive for maintaining vast cork oak forests in the Mediterranean Basin that trap greenhouse gases, provide wildlife habitat, prevent desertification and sustain family farmers. There is no shortage of cork and the production of cork does not harm cork oak trees.
The grand prize winner and five runners-up will be chosen by an online vote.
The grand-prize winner will receive:
- Round-trip coach airfare tickets to Portugal in June 2011;
- Transportation in Portugal from arrival and departure airports to the cork oak forest and between Lisbon and Porto;
- Accommodations for four nights in Lisbon, Porto or a combination of these two cities and more.
Five runners-up will receive 100% Cork tote bags.
