11th Annual Run the Ridge 5K and 1K Run/Walk to Fight Youth Obesity
BURR RIDGE, Ill., April 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Runners from all over the Midwest will help children in Illinois to "move past obesity" during this year's "Run the Ridge" 5K and 1K run/walk, Saturday May 30, in Burr Ridge, IL. The 11th annual run/walk to fight childhood obesity will feature exercise, healthy snacks and an opportunity to "rock out "to music performed by students of the School of Rock, Hinsdale. The race will raise money for ProActive Kids (PAK), a nonprofit, childhood obesity intervention program available at healthcare organizations in Illinois communities.
The Run the Ridge 5K Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m., and the 1K begins at 8:45 a.m. at the County Line Square shopping center 150 Burr Ridge Parkway, Burr Ridge. NBC5 Sports Broadcaster, Mike Adamle, is race emcee.
"Obesity affects almost one-fourth of adolescents and adults in the U.S.," says Suzanne Gray, race organizer and president of Right Fit Sport Fitness Wellness. "We are committed to making a difference for obese youth and teenagers who, with the PAK program, have a chance of learning good exercise and nutrition habits and ultimately will lose weight and live a healthier life."
The 5K entry fee is $35 for participants registering after May 1 and $25 for participants who sign up earlier. The fee for the 1K run/walk is $10. The entrance fee for the 5K includes a sports performance t-shirt, goody bag and entrance into the Family Fuel Tent, featuring healthy and nutritional beverages and snacks for race participants. Fitness activities will be sponsored by the Burr Ridge Park District and Avgeris and Associates will feature an Obstacle Challenge, DJ Mike on Mic, and the high-octane, world-class professional juggler and stilt walker, Dave Fleming.
