13th Boston Turkish Film Festival opens with Reha Erdem's Jin

BOSTON, March 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Boston Turkish Film Festival opens on March 20^th with Reha Erdem's film, Jîn.  One of the most notable Turkish film festivals in North America, BTFF has a program mostly of feature films. A total of 16 feature films will be screened in this year's program. In addition, a selection of documentaries and short films are also a part of the festival program.

As Turkish Cinema Celebrates its Centennial, the Festival Screens 20 Films

Turkish Cinema celebrates its centennial in 2014 and the festival emphasizes this in its promotions, inviting audiences to join the celebration. This year 20 films will be screened in the festival, once again representing a selection of the best of contemporary Turkish cinema and providing a platform for the U.S. cinema enthusiasts to meet Turkish filmmakers.

The festival program will begin on March 20^th with Jîn by Reha Erdem at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Festival opening reception at MFA will take place following the screening and Q&A with the director. The festival program will continue with Tales of Intransigence (İnat Hikayeleri) and Film Against All Odds (İnadına Film çekmek) by Reis çelik, The Butterfly's Dream (Kelebeğin Rüyası) by Yılmaz Erdoğan, Cycle (Devir) by Derviş Zaim, Thou Gild'st the Even (Sen Aydınlatırsın Geceyi) by Onur ünlü, Cold (Soğuk) and My World (Benim Dünyam) by Uğur Yücel,  Meryem by Atalay Taşdiken, Yozgat Blues by Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun, Somewhere in Between (Araf) by Yeşim Ustaoğlu, Are we OK? (Tamam mıyız?) by çağan Irmak, Govern-Mum 2 (Hükümet Kadın 2) by Sermiyan Midyat, Your Story (Senin Hikayen) by Tolga örnek, One Day or Another (El Yazısı) by Ali Vatansever, Happy Family Journal (Mutlu Aile Defteri) by Nihat Durak.

This Year's Excellence Award Recipient is Reis çelik

The Boston Turkish Film Festival Award for Excellence in Turkish Cinema is celebrating its eighth year and this year's recipient Director Reis çelik will be presented his award at a ceremony at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Festival will pay a Tribute to Tuncel Kurtiz

Legendary actor, author and director Tuncel Kurtiz, who sadly passed away in 2013, will be remembered during the Festival by screening three of his films and a discussion with Director Reis çelik.

Award-Winning Films and their Directors are at the Festival

Award-winning films of the Boston Turkish Festival Documentary and Short Film Competition will be screened at the festival.  Best Short Film Jury Award winner I II III IV by Ozan Sihay, Best Short Film Audience Award winner Uncle Şeref and His Shadow (Şeref Dayı ve Gölgesi) by Buğra Dedeoğlu, Best Documentary Jury Award winner Guest – Bahe (Misafir) by Haydar Demirtaş, and Best Documentary Audience Award winner My Child (Benim çocuğum) will be screened during the festival program.  Award ceremony and a panel discussion with the directors will take place following the film screenings.
