The celebration featured performances by Hadar Scholars including Nathaniel Taylor Leach as Master of Ceremonies followed by violinist Yuriy Bekker, an original monologue by Anthony Holiday, an aria by Julia Partyka, cellists Jane and Joanne Choi, original poetry by Julia Conrad, and classical pianist Kwan Yi.
Frank Cantor a mentor and celebrated filmmaker presented a documentary entitled "20 Years of the Richard and Mica Hadar Foundation." It featured congratulatory messages from Geoffrey Canada, president of the Harlem Children's Zone and Deborah Bial, founder and president of the Posse Foundation, both giants in the philanthropic world of education.
Since its founding in 1993 by Richard Hadar, the foundation has awarded over 240 scholarships for students attending colleges all over the country. Richard Hadar stated: "Artists have always had an important role in every advanced society. Art transports our imagination, inspires our dreams and challenges us to look at life in new ways. Our mission is to honor the artist's role in society by supporting scholars in the creative arts. We have been very successful doing that for the last 20 years, but our continued success in these fast changing times will depend on our ability to always find new ways to have a positive impact on the scholars we choose for scholarships. Helping me to do that is Mica Hadar, Co-chair of the foundation; who is, in her own right, a creative visionary and valued partner."
Richard and Mica Hadar both thanked the over 200 attendees for their outpouring of gratitude. Richard Hadar said, "It was enough to last a lifetime and is something Mica and I will always cherish."
