2011 East Bay Manufacturing Summit Presented by Manex and ACG to Examine Whether Manufacturing is Coming Back to the U.S.
SAN RAMON, Calif., Oct. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Is manufacturing coming back to the United States? That question will be examined at the 2011 East Bay Manufacturing Summit on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Claremont Country Club in Oakland, California.
The event is presented by The Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence (Manex), www.manexconsulting.com, in conjunction with The Association for Corporate Growth (ACG).
The trend to re-shore manufacturing back to the U.S. (also known as onshoring, backshoring and homeshoring) is emerging as a result of recent changes in the global economy and the risks associated with a global supply chain.
The summit will question the accuracy of whether manufacturing in the U.S. is truly "too costly." Other factors impacting the total cost of manufacturing offshore will also be examined such as rising wages in developing countries, quality issues, IP protection and increasing transportation costs.
"The re-shoring movement is gaining momentum as an increasing number of U.S. companies begin to reevaluate their sourcing strategy and assess whether to re-shore some or all of their manufacturing," says Hank Holzapfel, president of Manex. "The Summit will help to change the dialogue and bring to light the many costs that offshoring incurs along the value chain."
Panelists sharing their expertise on offshoring vs. re-shoring are: Lou Molinari, vice president, manufacturing operations, TriVascular, Inc.; Gildo Beleski, founder, chairman and chief designer, Trikke Tech, Inc.; and Jay Wakenshaw, president, Danco Machine, Inc. The discussion will be moderated by Jeffrey Webb, Managing Director, Industrial Growth Partners.
The cost to attend is $40 for ACG Members and Member Guests and the Manex Manufacturing Community members. The fee for non-members is $60.
